ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Candidates are strongly recommended to have Passports. Please note that the name in the Passport should be the same as given in the 10th Std. Certificate.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Class XII (10+2) pass with PCM or Diploma having aggregate 65% OR B.E. / B.Tech. with 65% in Mechanical/ Naval Architecture or Mechanical & Automationg from UGC recognised university and/or AICTE approved university and minimum 65% marks in the final year.

AGE LIMIT

Candidate's age should not exceed 28 years at the time of commencement of course. No age relaxation for neither Male nor Female candidates. Usually course commences in March, July & November every year.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

To be declared fit for selection, a candidate must be in good mental and physical health and free from any deficiency likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duties. Medically fit as per the M.S. (Medical Examination of Seafarer) rules 2000 as amended from time to time and also as per the D.G. Shipping guidelines.

EYESIGHT STANDARD

Candidates for the Graduate in Marine Engineering programme must have unaided 6/12 vision in both eyes. Color blindness is not permitted. Movement of the eyeballs must be full in all direction and the pupils should react normally to light and accommodation.

COURSE DURATION

Graduate in Marine Engineering is a 1 year full time undergraduate programme. 8 months of Classroom training. 4 months of Onboard training.

Course Overview

Graduate Marine Engineer Course is a pre-sea training course consists of an 8 months long classroom (pre-sea) training and a 4 months long onboard training where the cadet is entitled to stipend, free boarding & lodging. The GME course is consist of 2 semesters, each semester being 4 months of duration. The course deals with the production, design, functioning, and maintenance of marine equipment and its operations. This course also brings in the concept of operating various nautical engineering systems and basic electronic components used in that. The course provides an opportunity to learn both theoretical and practical aspects of marine and mechanical engineering, with a greater emphasis on skill sets required to operate, manage and maintain shipboard machinery. Upon successful completion of the classroom training, cadets are awarded with pre-sea course completion certificate and qualifies to join a ship as an Engine Cadet, where he/she is required to complete at least 6 months’ training service onboard vessels. Upon completion of the training period, one is to take the Class IV Part ‘B’ examination. Successful cadets will be awarded with a Certificate of Competency by the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India. After reception of the certificate one can sail as a Class IV Marine Engineer Officer.
