Course Overview

Bachelor of Science in Nautical Science is a 3 years course that results in an undergraduate degree after which the student joins a ship as a Trainee Cadet Officer (commonly referred to as a Deck Cadet).

It deals with the study of the basic academic and practical devices required to safely navigate and operate marine vehicles, such as a ship.

The course is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, which falls under the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India. B.Sc. in Nautical Science syllabus includes subjects such as navigation and seamanship, which is the basic application of shipboard equipment and tools.

This program trains the candidates in becoming Deck Officers. Also, the lessons imparted include lessons in Nautical Technology and its applications which form a vital part of Nautical Science.

Course Info

Qualifying in IMU-CET is mandatory for admission. Only unmarried candidates will be considered in addition with the following criteria have to be met in order to be eligible for admission intyo the B.Sc. in Nautical Science programme.

Candidate must have successfully completed the Senior Secondary Examination (10+2) or it’s equivalent with: At least 60% marks in PCM with at least 50% marks in English either in Class or Class XII.

Male candidates born on or after 1st September 2001 are eligible to apply for the 2022 batch. There is a two year age relaxation for Female candidates. Minimum age of Candidate shall be 17 years.

To be declared fit for selection, a candidate must be in good mental and physical health and free from any deficiency likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duties. Medically fit as per the M.S. (Medical Examination of Seafarer) rules 2000 as amended from time to time and also as per the D.G. Shipping guidelines.

Candidates for the B.Sc. Nautical Science programme must have unaided 6/6 vision in both eyes. Color blindness is not permitted. Movement of the eyeballs must be full in all direction and the pupils should react normally to light and accommodation.

B.Sc. in Nautical Science is a 3 year full time undergraduate programme.
